Hang In There!

I've been checking around and there doesn't seem to be a lot of news right now about the third book or the movie.  Stay strong all you people!  According to IMBD, the release date for the movie is January 29th, 2016.  That's a little more than a year!

Some More IMBd info

Hey everyone!

I haven't posted in a while, but know that I have been regularly checking the news on this series.  I just haven't seen anything important enough to post yet.

I would highly recommend checking out the IMBd page for the Fifth Wave movie.  It's been updated since I last posted the link and it looks like a lot of the big players have been casted!

Interesting Article on The Infinite Sea and the movie

http://www.burlingtoncountytimes.com/life-style/reality/the-next-wave-of-pop-culture-domination/article_a9c1ffde-d66e-55d6-ac30-9f0836eb2fc7.html

I didn't know there was this much hype for the movie on Twitter.  Will this be the next big thing?

If so, you, my readers, will be able to say you've followed this series from the start!

*Revelation* *SPOILERS*

     Wait a minute.
Please excuse my stupidity but I just re-read the last few pages of The Infinite Sea.  Wait, so is Evan alive??????
That makes sense but it doesn't.  It's another Evan.  Not the same one.  If that makes sense.

Third Book

Hey I know it's early but check this out: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16131489-untitled

The Goodreads page is already up and running for the third book of The Fifth Wave trilogy! August 2015, huh?  We better get our tissues and tears ready now.  No way is the entire crew gonna survive a full Rick Yancey post-apocalyptic trilogy.

Predictions Debriefing *Spoilers if you haven't read Infinite Sea Yet*

I thought it might be cool to revisit my predictions and see which came true!

1) There will most likely be a fight between Cassie and Ringer.  Even at the end of the first book, Cassie had some animosity towards her.

Confirmed.  Cassie and Ringer aren't exactly best friends and also had several fights.

2) The mother-ship left towards a larger base that will end up being a huge factor in this book.  Either that or they are deploying the rest of the kids in crucial areas.

Partially true.  The bomb kids were a factor and there were other bases/Camp Havens.

3) There will be a sixth wave, possibly on a global scale.  Based on the title and cover art, I feel like water (duh) may be involved, although as stated in my previous posts, the "infinite sea" could be a metaphor.  But for example, the Others could heat up the atmosphere and melt all of the polar ice caps.  This could be catastrophic for the crew (Cassie, Ben, Ringer, Sammy, Dumbo ect.).  Not only would this once again increase the sea level, but temperatures would also rise.

     Wrong.

4) Evan will return changed.  Much like the Hunger Games, I feel like Evan could be comparable to Peeta and *SPOILER ALERT* may actually be turned against the "good" side, much like how Peeta was brainwashed in Mockingjay.  I don't really have any evidence to support this but it is sort of a gut feeling I have.

Wrong.  Although he did return so there's that.

5) We will learn more about the Others.  So much about them is currently unknown and I think we all are hoping for some answers.

Yes.  We learned more about their motives and purpose here.  We also learned more about the pasts of Evan and other sleeper agents.

6) There are other species of aliens involved.  Also another gut instinct.  Based on my experience with books of this nature, the antagonists generally are not working alone and this usually comes as a shock to the protagonists.  The antagonists are part of a larger picture.

Wrong.  But not ruled out entirely.

7) The book will end on a cliffhanger.  If this series ends up as a trilogy, the second installment usually ends on a massive, point-of-no-return cliffhanger.

Eh.  I wouldn't call it massive but yeah there was a cliff hanger.

8) Sammy turns against Cassie.  Another gut instinct.  He will put more of his trust in Ben or Ringer.

Confirmed.  Sammy doesn't seem as attached to Cassie anymore and sometimes I think his loyalties lied with Zombie.

9) Another member of the crew will die.  My money is on Poundcake.  However, before he passes, I think we will find out a bit more about his past.

Absolutely true.  And what a back story that was.  I wonder, which came first in Yancey's mind?  Poundcake's name or his back story?

10) The crew will find another group of survivors, real survivors.

Eh, not really.  Although other survivors were mentioned, the group had no real interaction with them.

So that's it!  50% accuracy?  I would call that decent.

*SPOILERS* The Infinite Sea Full Book Review

     Well.

Let's just clarify a few things, shall we?  Please let me know if I'm wrong, since so much was going on in the last few chapters.

  1. Ringer is enhanced.
  2. Poundcake is dead.
  3. Evan is dead.
  4. Razor is shot.
  5. The Others actually have a plan (or so we think)
Overall, I enjoyed the pacing of the book.  I will admit that it was a bit slow in the beginning, but once the action picked up it remained constant and page-turning.

Cassie.  Where did she go?  Most of the book was told in Ringer's point of view.  Though I enjoyed this, I liked reading in Cassie's POV better.  Plus I feel like this story is about Cassie's journey.  Some of the action sequences were very fast and almost comic-book like (minus the "pows" and "cracks").  The action jumped around and you had to keep a close eye on the characters.  Grace was... huh... interesting.  I wish there was a little more information about her.  I feel like she was dropped in and then blam, she was gone again.

I think the writing was excellent, although the whole "infinite sea" metaphor was dropped way too much.  I think it would've been much more meaningful if it was used once in an emotionally scarring moment.

My only problem with the plot itself was that the characters didn't go anywhere.  They literally were like "well lets go to this hotel or these caves idk whatever oh okay no hotel lets just chill whatever"  But I guess I can't complain too much.  Ringer still had an epic journey.

     Megan.

Where the heck did she come from?  It's a very small world indeed.

I think I was satisfied with this sequel though and it left a bunch of questions in the air that I hope to see answered in the third book!

I think that's about it for now, although I will be reevaluating my predictions sometime in the near future!

AND WAIT A SEC.  IS CASSIE GONNA BLOW UP THE MOTHERSHIP?  Because that's the way to do it!

*SPOILERS* Halfway Mark Review

Well I am halfway through The Infinite Sea.  I stay up late last night just to make it to the 50% point.

     My thoughts:

  1. Who the heck is Grace?
  2. Poundcake is evil.  Calling it now.
  3. Ringer.  Teacup.  Where did they go?
That's all for now!  Sorry its a short post, I'm on a tight schedule today!

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!!!

     Release day is TODAY!

The Infinite Sea is getting decent reviews so far so I'm pretty excited to read it.  However, I won't be able to get my hands on it until late Friday night, since I'm busy with school all week.  When I do though, I promise you I'll be staying up to finish, no matter how long it takes (I'm guessing about 3 hours- I'm a fast reader).  When I reach the halfway mark, I'll write a post on my reactions so far, and then another debriefing when I finish.  I'll warn of spoilers in the post title!

     So any final thoughts?
Will you survive the fifth wave?

READ THE LAST POST BEFORE READING THIS-- Infinite Sea Interview Discussion

So Rick Yancey stated that the "Infinite Sea" was part of a phrase used in the first book.  This was when Cassie was looking for Sammy in the hanger and used "an infinite sea of upturned faces" to describe the crowd of children.  Yancey said that he can't reveal why he used this phrase for the title but I now have two more predictions.

     A) The Others somehow gather a majority of the survivors together... and we all know nothing good will come of that.

     B) The crew finds a large group of survivors who are preparing an assault on the Others.

In both of these situations, Cassie or another character may describe these crowds as an "infinite sea", much like in the first book.

However, I have a much crazier idea, option C:

     C) The Others have been watching humanity for centuries.  It could be very possible that somehow they have Wonderland profiles of every human ever (which wouldn't really make much sense, now would it?  Why would they re-do the Wonderland profiles at Camp Haven?).  Cassie may come across the computer and see all of the profiles throughout the ages.... it's a long shot.  Like a half court shot.

Here's an even crazier option, option D:

     D) Cassie finds Wonderland profiles of all the Others who were impersonating humans and she sees this large collection of not-humans as an "infinite sea".  Another long shot.  Like a full court shot.

So we have some legitimate options and some really crazy ones.  So what do you think?  Leave your ideas in the comments section below

Although I still do stand by my first idea on what the title means, in one of my earlier posts,... you never know.

Predictions for "The Infinite Sea"

With the release of the second book almost a month away, I thought it would be a good time to make some predictions about the story.  *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*  Don't read if you want the book to be a complete surprise!

1) There will most likely be a fight between Cassie and Ringer.  Even at the end of the first book, Cassie had some animosity towards her.

2) The mother-ship left towards a larger base that will end up being a huge factor in this book.  Either that or they are deploying the rest of the kids in crucial areas.

5) We will learn more about the Others.  So much about them is currently unknown and I think we all are hoping for some answers.

6) There are other species of aliens involved.  Also another gut instinct.  Based on my experience with books of this nature, the antagonists generally are not working alone and this usually comes as a shock to the protagonists.  The antagonists are part of a larger picture.

7) The book will end on a cliffhanger.  If this series ends up as a trilogy, the second installment usually ends on a massive, point-of-no-return cliffhanger.

8) Sammy turns against Cassie.  Another gut instinct.  He will put more of his trust in Ben or Ringer.

9) Another member of the crew will die.  My money is on Poundcake.  However, before he passes, I think we will find out a bit more about his past.

10) The crew will find another group of survivors, real survivors.

That's it for now!  Thanks for reading!  Let me know what your predictions are in the comments!

The 5th Wave Movie

This is also old news at this point but I am putting this up here for organization's sake.

The 5th Wave has gotten a page on IMBD (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2304933/) and based off of some sleuthing I did, it looks like we may have a movie on our hands!

I'm not exactly sure what to think about the cast.  I do like the casting for Evan and Ben, but I would have rather had an up-and-coming actress for Cassie.  I feel like this would've given the movie some more originality and not just another Hollywood blockbuster.  However, I will reserve judgement until after the movie comes out.

It is also speculated that the movie will be rated R for language and violence.  I personally hope that it will be toned down to PG-13 because rating it as R seriously limits how many readers will be able to see the movie when it comes out.  That's all for now; more updates as them come.

Cover Release for The Infinite Sea

This is old news at this point but the cover for The Infinite Sea has been released!

From Goodreads.com
Based on what I am sea-ing, it looks like a lighthouse is prominent in the middle.  The circular design near the top seems to be ships or an orbit pattern that is centered around a city.  Water is also featured.

I'm not exactly sure what this means for the plot but I think this may indicate another disaster of wave-like proportions.  We already had a wave that flooded the coastal cities, so another flood seems redundant.  At this point it's hard to say what this means.  However, I have a nagging suspicion that the Others may seize control of the climate (melting the glaciers and ice caps?).  The "Sea" may not even be an actual sea; more likely it is a metaphor.
